VIP guests enjoyed an evening of fizz and canapes to celebrate the opening of Walworth Castle’s new restaurant, 1189 Bar & Kitchen.
Welcomed with a glass of prosecco, invited guests were able to sample some delicious canapes, created by our head chef Steve and his team. The canapes were actually smaller versions of the main menu and included starters such as chorizo scotch eggs and salt and pepper calamari, and main course canapes included shepherd’s pie, mini burgers and cones of mini fish and chips. The desserts were amazing and included my personal favourite was sticky toffee pudding. They were all absolutely delicious!
The launch event at 1189 Bar and Kitchen at Walworth Castle Hotel, was hosted by Gary Philipson from BBC Tees and featured a gin tasting masterclass with Darlington’s Little Quaker Distillery. Paul, from Little Quaker Distillery was very informative on the gin making process and how he and his wife Leanne set up their new business venture. We were delighted that we were the first hotel in Darlington to stock Quaker Gin, and Paul and Leanne were actually married at the castle a few years ago!
Guests were also given the opportunity to look around the historic building, including a privileged peek in the castle’s dungeon. Some of the distinguished guests were invited from Darlington Business Club, Durham Business Club and The North East Chamber of Commerce, many of whom had never visited the castle before and were surprised of its close location to the A1 and how great the setting was.
We were absolutely delighted at the turn out to the launch party and there’s been some great press from local newspapers and magazines as well as food bloggers and influencers. Catherine Harland helped us with the PR campaign and was instrumental in making the launch the success it was.
Hopefully, this has launched 1189 Bar and Kitchen into the publics radar when they are thinking of going out for a meal. We are open for meals all day every day and offer a warm welcome and great home cooked food. Why not take a look at 1189 Bar and Kitchen on our website here!
