We know you love reading about our real life Walworth Wedding Couples, so here comes the next instalment of our Walworth Wedding Blogs from Mr & Mrs Dixon who got married here in the Summer of 2019! Jess, our Reception & Events Supervisor caught up with them to recap their big day!
What made you choose Walworth Castle as your wedding venue?
As soon as we pulled in and saw the Castle, we fell in love with it. On our first visit, we had only planned to pop in for a coffee after visiting another venue in the area. After we saw how beautiful the Castle was, we asked if weddings were held at the castle. Within minutes, the events team came and introduced themselves to us, showed us around the castle and discussed various options with us. Before we had even finished looking around, we knew our wedding would be held here.
Throughout our two years of planning we could not fault any of the staff, they have been exceptional. This was a huge factor for us, it paid off on the day as we did not have to worry about anything and were able to relax.
Which part of planning your wedding did you enjoy the most?
We enjoyed looking at different venues around the area and meeting all our different suppliers! Of course, menu tasting, and sampling different types of cakes were firm favourites as well!
Did you have hen/stag do’s? If so, where did you go and what did you do?
Matthew went to Budapest on his stag do and did a lot of sightseeing.
What did you have for your wedding breakfast and evening food?
For our wedding breakfast we had the Medley of Melon to start, Roast Chicken to follow and Chocolate Fudge Cake to end. It was all delicious! Being able to choose a refreshing for the starter on a warm day was a great idea, better than a warm soup! Just do not tell Kirsty that!
On the evening, we had the hog roast and the ice cream cart which was a big success! The staff also placed some hog roast sandwiches in our room ready for us when the evening had finished!
What was your colour theme and what decorations did you add to the Castle on the day?
We had a colour theme of Dusky Pink. Our decorations included Lanterns and Centre Pieces with flowers and candles – provided by the lovely Lisa Charles. We then added the table numbers and menus to each table, these were made by ourselves!
If you could give some advice to any couple just starting out on their Walworth wedding journey what would it be?
Enjoy the experience, the day will be over before you know it! The events team are excellent and guide you through everything so relax and enjoy! Also, remember that it’s your day. Make decisions that are right for you, you will never be able to please everyone!
We have two bridal suites at the Castle. Are you team Jenison or King James?
Team Jenison all the way! We even had the room for our first anniversary stay which was very unexpected!
If you could change one thing about your wedding, what would it be?
That the day could last longer!
Which part of the day did you enjoy most?
Matthew : Watching my wonderful wife tearing up the dancefloor with all of our new family!
Kirsty: We got married at our local church before arriving at Walworth for our reception, so for me, other than the actual ceremony and officially becoming Mrs Dixon after 10 years of waiting, I really enjoyed seeing everyone’s reaction when they arrived as for most it was their first time visiting the castle!
If you had to describe your wedding in 3 words what would they be?
A perfect day!
